Tree Tenders

 

Volunteers are needed to plant trees with the tree tenders program the weekend of April 9-10th.  

Saturday, April 9th

9:30am - 1 pm Ardmore Junction Train Station

9:00am - 11:00 am  Haverford Reserve

1:00pm - 3:00pm  Haverford Reserve  

Sunday, April 10th

9:30am - 1pm     Llanerch (planting trees on Darby Rd. & West Chester Pike)  

Contact Jeanne Angell at angellsrus@comcast.net if you can help out at one of these locations.  No experience necessary.  Don't feel you have to volunteer all day - even a couple of hours would be helpful!  

 

We also are looking for volunteers to participate in the Tree Tenders 12-hour training program, sponsored by the PA Horticultural Society, and and then to help to plant trees in your neighborhood. The Friends of Haverford Library needs the following volunteers

 

  • Board Members (1 meeting a month commitment)
  • Book Sale Volunteers (help a few days with 2 book sales a year )
  • Garden Tour Volunteers ( interested gardeners would help as guides in June and with some set up in May)
  • Art Show and Sale (April 8th thru June need help with reception and sales)

Heritage Festival Volunteers Needed

   Sunday, June 5

   11 am to 4 pm

   

 Join us on beautiful Karakung Drive along Cobbs Creek, as the Historical Society celebrates the rich, cultural heritage and local history of our area. 

 

Can you volunteer for an hour or two this year?  Volunteers can help with set up, direct parking, sell tickets, supervise pony rides, provide coverage for Nitre Hall, clean-up, etc. Contact Jeanne Angell at angellsrus@comcast.net  if you can help.

Grant Writers Needed

Do you have experience with grant writing or foundation research?  Would be willing to work with one local non-profit group to write one grant in the next year or two?

 

The Civic Council is creating a list of volunteers who can help the Civic Council or one of our member groups identify and/or apply for grant funding for a specific project (especially ones that focus on our identified Action Priority issues, which will be voted on in April).  Action Priority projects proposed so far include: the Haverford Heritage Trail, Business Revitalization,  Planting and Protecting Trees, etc.  To see a list of out member groups, visit our website at www.haverfordciviccouncil.org.Contact Jeanne Angell at angellsrus@comcast.net if you might be interested in helping out.

Join the Haverford Township

Adult School Board!

 

Haverford Township Adult School has been providing a valuable service the residents for over 50 years. Behind the scenes is a diligent volunteer board that manages all aspects of running the school. The board's responsibilities run the gamut from designing the brochure to managing the finances. The board is seeking residents of or owners of businesses located in Haverford township to help with its current responsibilities and to bring new ideas to the table. Board members attend board meeting 9 times/year, serve on committees to determine curriculum, oversee publicity, finances, and community relations. 

 

HTAS is also seeking Advisory board members with expertise in insurance, marketing (especially social media networking) to provide professional advice on an as needed basis

Generous Generations

 

Generous Generations was established in 2007 as an organization designed to connect people ages 1-100 with service and philanthropic endeavors that help to create strong communities, healthy families and service-minded children and adults. Our goal is to provide opportunities for hands-on service activities for people of all ages to make a difference in the world. Our next project will be the 5thAnnual Breakfast Bag Bonanza on Friday, May 20 at 6:30 pmin Havertown. Everyone will be asked to bring supplies (costing approximately $10-$20) and using the good old-fashioned assembly line, we will make breakfast bags for elderly shut-ins in West Philadelphia. Valley Association Clean-up Days


As they have since 1984, this spring, hundreds of volunteers will gather throughout the 77 square miles and 31 municipalities of the Darby Creek/Cobbs Creek watershed to remove the tires, shopping carts, and other accumulated debris from the creek and feeder streams we all share.   Come join us at one of the Haverford Township sites!

Proceeds to benefit the PTO @ Chestnutwold ElementarySchool, Run Philly Style (an organization to get children from the inner-city running) and Back on My Feet (an organization that promotes the self-sufficiency of homeless populations by engaging them in running as a means to build confidence, strength and self-esteem).

Needs Drivers and More

Started in 1992, Chore connection links volunteers of all ages with low income older adults (60+) in Delaware County to help them live independently.

 

Volunteer opportunities: 

  • Transportation to medical appointments or errands (mileage reimbursed)
  • List Shopping
  • Seasonal Yard Work
  • Odd jobs and minor home repairs
  • Telephone reassurance or Friendly visiting
  • Light Housekeeping
